219 – S.O.S.

I completely missed this episode when it originally aired, I didn’t even realize it until a few months later during the mid-season hiatus in season 3.  This really shows how important this episode is, you can completely miss this episode and it won’t matter.  The same can be said of this review, it really doesn’t make a difference in the scheme of things.  I have a few suspicions about the Faith Healer, Issac, from Australia, but none of the suspicions lead anywhere.  I’m giving this episode a 2.0/10.0 and that’s only because this episode, while useless, doesn’t damage my opinion of Rose and Bernard.

Character Impressions:

-Eeew frogurt is in this episode.

-Locke is banging on the armory desperately asking him whether or not Ben pushed the button and Ben does his best conniving smile.

-Ben goes on a two day hunger strike.  This probably would have been more effective when he was still pretending to be Henry Gale.

-Jack says that he wants to trade Ben for Walt, Ben’s reply is “they’ll never give you Walt.”  Isn’t it a little weird, since if Walt was so important, that they just let him leave with Michael at the end of the season.

-Jack invites Kate on his trek to meet with Mr Friendly and trade Ben for Walt.  Why does he suddenly want to bring her along, wasn’t it a few episodes ago when he was desperate to keep her away.

-Kate says that she’s sorry she kissed Jack, then he says he’s not sorry, and it’s awkward.

-I wonder if Abaddon sent Locke to Australia to visit the faith healer, Issac,  that Rose went to.

Ana Lucia

-Ana Lucia appears to be the 24/7 guard of Ben.

-Michael comes back, oh joy of joys.

-It’s weird to see Rose being so faithless off the island.  She changed a lot after she was cured.

-Rose is fully aware of the healing powers of the island.  In the flashback she casually meets Locke in the airport when he was still in the wheelchair.  I had a theory about the healing powers of the island, you can read it here.

-Bernard promised Rose that they would never leave the island.  Therefore I completely don’t understand why she is so willing to get rescued by the freighter folk in seasons three and four.

Flashbacks (what we knew then):

-I can officially say that I have no flashbacks from this episode, because I didn’t watch it.  But I do remember watching the next episode and being very confused about the Previously on Lost portion.

Flashforwards (what we know now):

-The faith healer that Rose went to was very mysterious.  He said some stuff about spots on the Earth where there was special energy, and he harnessed that energy.  He told Rose that he couldn’t heal her, she asked where could she be healed, then he said he wishes he knew where.  It sounds like he is fully aware of the island and he wants to find it.
Also his name was Issac, in the bible Issac was the father of Jacob.  Coincidence?  I think not.  This could imply that Jacob is the healer on the island.  I wouldn’t mind meeting more of these healers.

“Therefore I completely don’t understand why she is so willing to get rescued by the freighter folk in seasons three and four.”

    What? When?

She chose to go to the beach with Jack not because she wanted to be rescued but because she saw Locke kill Naomi and didn’t want anything to do with him anymore. Kinda sad, considering their friendship in this episode.

But yeah, she never made me think she was willing to be rescued in those seasons, in the S4 finale she’s just walking around cleaning the “kitchen” telling Miles off. Don’t you think if she wanted to be rescued she would have gotten on the raft?

Also if you go to DARK UFO theres a spoiler about Uluru next season. I won’t tell you unless you’re remaining spoiler free but it’s interesting.

It seemed like staying on the island wasn’t much of an issue for her in the end of season three. She was just going along with the crowd, being all excited by Naomi and the hope of the Freighter Folk.
I dunno, I guess it’s very important that I continue to watch these old episodes, to dispel these wrong ideas.
And I’m remaining spoiler free, unless it comes from official teasers.

I’m sure Rose was just happy for everyone else. She’s very selfless.

Something I just noticed, and this has to do with the question of where the food came from, is before the lockdown and all the new food, all the food that was already in the hatch like the peanut butter and canned foods were in small cans and jars. I believe this is because there were only two people eating it. But while Bernard and Rose were putting the food on the shelves on the beach, I noticed everything was industrial-sized. Like cafeteria-food. So I’m wondering if maybe whoever sent the food (or however it came about) knew exactly how many people were going to be eating it.
