Better Season 6 poster

Way back at Comic-Con the Season 6 poster was blurrily revealed.  It’s a picture of all the main characters of Lost standing in a row with Locke in the center.  There was a some confusion and debate about who exactly was in the poster.  Well we now have a better quality version of that same poster.  It’s still not good quality, but we can see who all the characters are.

So here it is:

Season 6 poster 02

From DarkUFO.

So here’s the official list from left to right: Daniel, Boone, Miles, Ana Lucia, Charlotte, Shannon, Desmond, Eko, Kate, Jack, Sawyer, Locke, Ben, Sayid, Libby, Sun, Jin, Claire, Hurley, Juliet, Charlie, Frank, Richard, Bernard & Rose.  I was right, Huzzah!  So apparently this is the official cast of main characters.  Of course I have a problem with the list, notably the fact that it’s missing Walt, but also because Alex, Rousseau, Nikki, Paulo, Aaron, Ji Yeon, and Ilana are missing.

408-rousseau-alex-karl-01I can see how someone could discount the kids, Aaron and Ji Yeon would have been very awkwardly photoshopped in.

Also I am aware that the Dalton feel that Nikki and Paulo were complete failures as characters, but they still existed.

I am less lenient about Alex and Rousseau.  I’ve always felt that they were main characters, or at least they should have been.  But the truth is that they were nothing more than storylines to flesh out The Others, Ben and Sayid.

510-ilana-01I am quite angry that Ilana wasn’t included.  One would think that they would want to be able to stick more women into this group.  It’s at about a 2:1 ratio of males to females.  But even if we ignore the obvious lack of female characters, wouldn’t Ilana be more important than Frank?  I still don’t understand the character of Frank.  At first I thought he was a means to an end, he was the helicopter pilot, he was completely necessary to the storyline of Season 4.  But then they brought him back to crash the plane.  And then he survived the plane crash.  And then he followed Sun around the Island.  Then he followed Ilana around the Island.  What the hell?  Meanwhile Ilana was summoned to the Island by Jacob and remained the second most mysterious character in Season 5 (behind Jacob, of course).  So why can’t she get into this exclusive group of “main characters”?

507-walt-01The Walt situation is just purely angrifying B.S.  I am sure Walt is a main character, or at least he was until he started aging.  I fully understand the need to remove him from the Island, but I don’t see why he doesn’t get to come back.  I keep on hearing about more and more actors who are returning to Lost next year (I’ve been avoiding posting them so as not to spoil the show… also I’m lazy).  If all these ridiculous, dead characters can come back, then why can’t an intriguing living character come back?  It’s nonsensical.  I hope that they are just not telling us he’s coming back so as not to spoil the surprise, but I highly doubt it.

Its kind of gutting when your favourite characters get bumped off unexpectedly – but its also one of the strengths of the show – keeping you on the edge of your seat etc. If there is one thing we all should have learnt from Lost though is that twists and turns and teasers are all part of the bandwagon. When things that have been hinted at do eventually turn up, they never quite what you expected.

Personally though, the most gutting part of it is that you are about to get Season 6 and me here in England am still stuck at the end of series 4 as a TV viewer without cable or satellite…

@izikavazo – True, but either I spend ages downloading them (I live in the middle of the countryside and my connection is v. slow) or I watch them online (rubbish quality) or I wait and hire them when they come out on DVD… or a friend lends them to me! (usual route)

Jacob, MIB, Eloise, Chang, Charles… etc…

Walt will return. No doubt about that.

Frank is important because he identified the mis-identification of the pilot on the news (how’s that for lazy word usage?) I am just now watching Season 1 and the same dead bodies from the news, as seen by Frank, are the ones that Kate and Sawyer find in the pool under the waterfall (the silver suitcase with the $, guns and toy airplane). So, if those corpses really DO exist, at least on the island, how is it that the same scene appeared on the news????
Has anyone thought about this? Or am I beating a very dead horse?
By the way, what is the significance of the toy airplane? It sure looked like an Oceanic model with only a quick-see. Seems an odd thing for Kate’s old partner in crime to have…
Back to Frank: He knows Widmore, or had some kind of contact with him after notifying the news station – he got himself hired onto the freighter. How did that happen? He didn’t appear to be job-seeking at the time he caught the news. He was at his “business” feeling guilty about his friend. Eventually he would have seen his friend on the news, so that was a given. Did the island cause him to get drunk and miss the flight only to become a part of the plot later? He seemed to be unconnected at the point of seeing his old friend in the drink on the news. How did that connection arise? Was his consciousness manipulated? Heck, everthing else has happened, why not?
Ilana’s connection is unexplained as well. At least I haven’t read anything. She popped in bounty hunting Sayid.
Anyone notice Frank’s change in demeanor from one season to the next? He was “Frank” the first season he was on Lost, then when returning as an airline pilot, his “Frank-ness” is gone. He’s become rather boring and uber-responsible. “Hunker down” and…whatever. His choice to pass on the adventure with Sun seemed very un-Frank.
Losties can go on and on about the what, where and why’s. Which they do. All over the net.
There is so much going on, I can’t believe they can tie up ALL the loose ends in the last season. I am going to miss Lost, and it’s not even over yet.
Did the producers and writers have any notion of the exceptional nature of the story they were creating? They have created an entirely new genre for TV. I don’t even know what the genre would be called. Mindbendingly addictive mythology?

I don’t think anyone’s ever noticed the bodies in the plane but there’s a possible explanation. The bodies are probably just a set piece they reused. It’s a boring conclusion, but I don’t think the plane is from a different timeline or anything like that.
You list many of the reasons why I don’t like Frank as a character. He’s a minor character with a major role. Many other side characters have had important places in the plot and once they have their special scene they just disappear. But Frank keeps on coming back for increasingly ridiculous reasons.
I don’t know what to say about Ilana, the Season 5 finale kind of explained why she came to the Island.
I think a lot of people will be disappointed with the finale. They will have to discard many storylines and people will be mad. But you’re right, Lost changed TV. We’ll probably never get a story as epic as Lost again. I’ll miss it when it’s over.

    Hi Izi!

How have you been holding up this long LOST hiatus?

From what I can tell (and donna81503 has now given me yet another reason to rewatch the episodes 🙂 ) I believe that the bodies that Sawyer and Kate found were those of the couple at the airport that were berating Jin and Sun, thinking that neither could speak English , in Season One Finale, ” Exodus”).

I’ve been soooo lazy over the hiatus. I feel guilty. Eventually I need to get back in the swing, but I am getting so paranoid about spoilers that I’ve been alienating myself from the Lost community. I’m still reading your blog though. Your perseverance is amazing.
Interesting theory. Those two people always stood out, but I never made that connection.
