Season 6 Cast Photos

ABC just released the promo pictures for the main cast members for Season 6.  Click the “read more” link to see them all.  Some people might consider these pictures spoilers.  That’s crazy talk if you ask me, but I try to respect the insane among  us.

I also talk a little about the official cast list for Season 6.

Extremely minor CASTING SPOILERS below.

The official press release from ABC said this:

“Lost” stars Naveen Andrews as Sayid, Nestor Carbonell as Richard Alpert, Emilie de Ravin as Claire, Michael Emerson as Ben, Jeff Fahey as Frank Lapidus, Matthew Fox as Jack, Jorge Garcia as Hurley, Josh Holloway as Sawyer, Daniel Dae Kim as Jin, Yunjin Kim as Sun, Ken Leung as Miles, Evangeline Lilly as Kate, Terry O’Quinn as Locke and Zuleikha Robinson as Ilana.

So that cast has changed a little.  I think all of the changes are great.

Claire being re-added to the cast is fun.  Not at all surprising, this was announced at the end of season 4.  But I guess it’s possible that people didn’t hear about it.

Jeff Fahey is now a main cast member.  I’m still having a hard time with this.  The cast is evidently going to be packed with guest stars next year, it’s going to be a reunion of sorts.  Do we have time for Frank anymore?  Do we really need a pilot again?  It’s an odd choice.

My two favorite casting decisions were the addition of Nestor Carbonell and Zuleikha Robinson as regular cast members.  I really didn’t want those two characters to be written out or ignored and this pretty much guarantees that.

You’ll notice that Henry Ian Cusick isn’t on the cast list.  That means Desmond being downgraded to a recurring guest.  That is awesome and a half.  I think this should have happened at the end of season 4, after he had his happily ever after, when he was reunited with Penny.  I didn’t want more drama in his life.  He’s gone through enough.  In season 5 he had a fun little adventure with Ben.  I don’t think that was necessary.  It was very frightening, mostly because Henry Ian Cusick was a regular cast member and Sonya Walger was still a guest.  She was in a great deal of danger.  But it turns out that she was just almost all the episodes that he was in.

I got these pictures from BuddyTV.

There are some more shots over on DarkUFO.

I honestly don’t see what people see in Ilana. From my POV, so far she’s a largely forgettable character. The only significant thing that has happened with this emotionally flat character is that she had a flashback with Jacob. Let’s face it, at this point she has been presented with far less of an emotional range than Ana Lucita. Heck, even Frank has been presented as more complex character.

Of course, what really annoys me about her character (and Bran) is that with a limited number of episodes to wrap the whole series up, any time spent telling backstory of a brand new character really has to be amazing. I mean, they could easily fill up 19 episodes discovering the mysteries we already have, but instead we could potentially get a whole new layer of characters with murky motivations that are going to take time from what is left to be explained. (From what I see from Season 6 spoilers, there look like there could be a lot of new faces…)

Anyway, that’s why even though Desmond is one of my favorite characters, I don’t have a problem with him being a guest star in Season 6. From what I can tell, his story wrapped up at the end of Season 4, so I hope they will focus on wrapping up those other unresolved stories and mysteries, rather than focusing on people like Ilana, Frank, Bran.

Then again, perhaps Bran and Ilana will have some crucial role in Season 6 and will tie into Richard’s backstory, or the whispers, or something else I really care about. Lost has pleasantly surprised me on numerous occasions, so I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. It’s just right now, I’m just … a little nervous.

My opinion is that new characters were always to be expected. From Season 3 (if not earlier) there has always been hints that there are people behind the curtain manning the controls which dictate the islands future, past, and present. If people like Ilana aren’t included as major cast-members it somewhat dispels the idea that Jacob (or his counter part) ever really mattered. Ilana and Bran, to me, represent Jacob and their existence shows that he is still important to whatever outcome events converge upon.

I really believe that if you go in to Season 6 with the expectation that every loose end will reach its conclusion that you will end up very disappointed.

Good point. It’s always good to have mysterious characters who know more than the audience. Lost can’t really go on if we know everything the main cast knows, there has to be an element of mystery. Ilana, Richard, “Locke” and probably Claire will represent that unknown entity this season. (I wish I could count Walt in that list too.)
I really feel bad for those people who go into this season with high vague hopes. I think people should lay out what they expect from this season and the finale so that when it’s over they can’t come up with ridiculous, vague complaints. My sister actually did that the other day regarding the BSG finale. If you go into a finale with extremely high expectations but without anything specific in mind then nothing will satisfy you.
Look at Linda down below. That kind of talk makes me very worried.

I never said that season six will tie up every loose end. The Star Wars midichlorian example that Darlton brought up was a good example.

What I do believe in is that there are more than enough mysteries in Lost to more than fill up season six (and beyond), so I’m uneasy when I hear they adding in yet-another-layer of mysteries in season six.

I want this show to end with a bang, and not like how the X-Files ended.

I’m very attached to Ilana because I loved her in Rome and I automatically like new characters way more than old ones. I would rather see more time spent on any new character rather than the original cast. Unfortunately if you look at those pictures most of those people are from the pilot. I get that people are attached to them, but I think the writers are better at creating characters than they are at sustaining them.
I don’t think you have to be nervous, from the sound of it this season is being advertised as a throwback to the first season. These new people aren’t going to take over any time soon.

Sheesh. Now you have me thinking what Lost would be like if they cast Kevin McKidd (Lucius Vorenus) for Jack. “Sons of Dis, he killed Naomi!” 😉

As for characters, I’m not too interested in most of the “A list” characters, as I am largely done with Jack, Kate, Sawyer. I wouldn’t lose any sleep if they were eaten by the smoke monster, as it’s Locke, Ben, Sayid, Hurley and now Richard that are the one’s I’m paying attention too.

I hope Frank gets some of his “Frank-ness” back this season. Last season he was very toned down and not at all the Frank in the Hawaiian shirt, beard, and somewhat lusty physique. Since he is the main reason I watch now, I was really disappointed with last season.
It may be that Desmond won’t return, since he was naughty with an ABC employee.
They have SO many ends to tie up, I don’t see how they ever will accomplish it in one season!

I willl tell you what I tell all my friends, watch the show over again. If you’ve only seen it once then you haven’t fully noticed how many mysteries have been tied up. Every episode ends with a cliffhanger, and usually by that time you’ve forgotten about the three or four reveals that happened earlier in the episode. I don’t think this season will be much different, they’re not going to suddenly change the format and end every episode with a nice happy bow with the “The More You Know” jingle.

This is one of the best shows on TV. Every season seems to get better and better. If you want a great show to get into…this is the show. It’s full of great acting, well thought out plot lines, intense suspense and a great cast. This show will make you want to watch more. Can’t wait for every “hole” to be revealed in season 6.

How could the cast photos be a spoiler?

Maybe if they were of Jacob and No Name and were released before last season…oh well.

Is it just me or is Sun kind of scary small?

I think if her head wasn’t so huge her body might not look so awful.
I was thinking that some people might want to be surprised by the return of Claire. Also I’ve received some pretty nasty emails from people who consider dumb things to be spoilers so now I’m just overly careful.

    and no1 mentions Juliet.

    *sigh*

well I like the pics, I think Frank as a main character is a goo thing, remember Ilana and Bram discussing wether he could be a candidate? That oughta mean somethin’?

Poor Juliet. Judging from the fact that V hasn’t been canceled yet I doubt we’ll be getting a whole lot of Juliet in Season 6.
Good point about Frank, I never really thought about that. Maybe he will become special soon.
