Since season 1 we have been trying to deduce what exactly is so “special” or “different” about Walt.  The hints were vague and rare.  But I have a theory.

In the pilot a polar bear comes near to killing a survivor or two.  The first thing most Lost non-fans ask is where the polar bears come from.  I attempted to answered that question here.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m not changing my theory I still think that is true, but at the same time I think Walt could be responsible for the Polar Bears being on the island.

We all saw Walt reading that Spanish comic book with the polar bear in it.  I’m sure many of you are like me and you tried to put two and two together and figured that, hey, maybe Walt summoned the animal out of nothing to come to the island.  Perhaps that is his power, cummoning animals, it seems likely, after all he seems able to make birds appear out of no where.  If you ask me that is a pretty lame power.  I have  no doubt that is what he’s doing, but I believe that is just a sample of his powers.

We now know that the polar bears were on the island for many years before Walt even saw the comic book, probably long before he was even born, so it would seem that he couldn’t have had anything to do with their appearence, right?  I submit that he still did.  Therefore I believe that his power isn’t just to create things out of nothing or to summon things that he needs, I think he can change the course of history so that his whims can be fulfilled.  I belive he has the power that a scientific mind like Daniel Faraday couldn’t comprehend.  Daniel would say that you can’t change the future by changing something in the past, I believe that Walt can, and it’s the fact that the ability is physically or scientifically impossible that makes it a power.

And think how important such a power would be to the show.  To have someone who could change the course of history would be amazing.  At this poitn in my theory my mind starts to comprehend the infinite then I start to lose track of reality and I can’t think.  But to quote Morpheus, “What happened happened, and couldn’t have happened any other way.”  So even if Walt has this power it doesn’t mean that season 1 of Lost will be erased or anything like that, it just means that Walt can get whatever he wants, and as long as we don’t know something happened in history, then Walt can change it to however he wants.

I have to say I’m pretty skeptical about this one. Walt is psychic, however that works in Lost-lore, but I really don’t think he has the kinds of powers you’re describing here. Lindelof and Cuse are very adamant about the future being a fixed destination. The journey would be almost pointless if all Walt had to do was abracadabra the bad times away.
